Fun Mail

It is outrageously hot here, so trying to keep everyone cool has been a full time job. In between ice-cream smoothies, with tons of our fresh picked strawberries which are still as good as ever, and sunscreen applications, I have managed to do some fun reading. A while back I ordered a sewing book and some Japanese craft books, and they have all just arrived!

I love getting things in the mail. When I was much younger I kept a fairly large correspondence including people I met on my travels ( I was once fairly well traveled) and pen pals who I had never met. I really do miss the good old fashioned letter and getting news from far away penned in someone's own hand. There is something so intimate about a real letter that an email just cannot replicate.

Where I grew up everyone had a post office box, so you had to walk up the street to the post office to get the mail. I remember when I was big enough to learn the combination and was able to open the box myself, I felt so grown!

My mom would send us up there every day with the letters to buy stamps (13 cents each) and she would always mark the corner with an X so we would know where to put the stamp. She marked those corners for me well into my teens. At the time I thought it was annoying, because when you are a teenager anything your parents do is annoying, but now I kinda miss it and when I write things in that corner, like the date I should mail something by, I always think of mom. Love you mom.

Ok, enough memory lane, back to the books. Here they are in my mail basket (we don't have a box)...

The first one, The Cute Book is in English in the Japanese format which makes deciphering the Small Felt Creations book much easier. I haven't been able to get to Amy's book yet. I am waiting until I have a good chunk of time and a nice cup of tea to devote to it.

I'll post reviews and pictures of projects from the books when I get a few together. For now I am trying to stay cool, organize my workspace, and day dreaming about projects to come.
