Not So Much

There's not so much going on here. Visitors over the holiday and now 2 sick boys are preventing much creating or blogging. So here are some things I am thinking about while tending my feverish little ones...

This is...

This is, first of all my 100th post! I can't believe I have written that much, but it must be true. Thanks to every one who has been reading, commenting, and supporting my efforts at crafting, gardening, and tiding up my life. It's been super fun and I think it's going to get even better!

This week's meme theme, suggested by Betty the Geek is...

This is My Creation

Since I tend to blog about every thing I make, here is a view of my most important creations. They are playing windmills.

I am so blessed.

Catching Up

I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do.

Being sick last week really put a wrench in my well laid plans. I hate being sick. Besides the obvious not-feeling-good part, it just feels like a giant waste of time. I would come home, hit the couch and basically be disabled for the rest of the night. Although I couldn't muster the strength to get up, I would lay there thinking of all the wonderfully productive things I could have been doing.

I think I will do the catching up in reverse, most recent (and fun) first.

This week we went to...

New York!

Dsc_0011

It was kinda spur of the moment but super fun! It was the kids version of the city,

the Museum of Natural History, which is AMAZING,

Toy Stores,

FAO, and Toys R Us, if you don't like crowds, skip Toys R Us, but FAO is worth the trip,

and candy stores

the M&M store, our youngest's favorite candy,

Mmstoreoutdside

and a very fun place called Dylan's Candy Bar

in which I found the BEST Australian licorice which is my favorite sweet thing.

We had a Fromer's New York with Kids guide book and I would highly recommend it. It was full of good places to stay, eat, and was generally very helpful. I've put it in my Amazon astore.

For breakfast the last day we went to a little place called Alice's Teacup. A sweet little restaurant on 64th Street. The crepes were wonderful and it rekindled my love of tea. They served everything on mismatched china and there were child sized wings that you could borrow to wear. I was tempted, but I resisted.

Dsc_0081

A rare photo of me, I'm usually behind the camera. See the wings in the back?

Alicesteacup

yum.

In the going through the storage unit department, we have been making great strides and have managed to downsize to a smaller unit which saves us money and makes it feel much less overwhelming. One thing I found on this recent go-through was this picnic basket. It is full of sewing things I saved from my grandmother long before I started sewing with vintage materials. I didn't even know I had it. It was like getting a little present from Nana.

Dsc_0548

yes, that's a penguin.

Dsc_0547

My Nana was very frugal, she saved everything including the bread bag to keep odds and ends in. See the buttons :)

More catch up...

a fat quarter swap I sent to Portugal...

and finally, I've been loving...

vintage embroidery patterns which you can find at Needle Crafter ...

Overwhelmed

Yeah. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed right now. The end of the month is fast approaching and with it the deadline for all the paper work for the schools we are applying to for Bubba.

Plus I'm trying to write a grant. It's not the end of the world if the grant stuff doesn't get done but it's a TRAVEL grant. As in pack your bags and go somewhere (France actually). So I will be bummed if I don't make that deadline, but I am too tired to research right now.

I'm glad I deleted the list of things to do this month. I did it mostly for formatting reasons but I can't remember what was on it so it must not have been that important.

I have to say the school paper work stuff is unbelievable. Many many pieces of paper and photocopying. yuck. But this too shall pass.

I've been doing other things, got the quilt taken apart, bread baking experiments, made a package for a friend (now to get it in the mail...), made another pillow case, ummmm... my sister's birthday present. I'll post pictures as soon as I can.

Until then, some flickr faves...

Snow Day! and some progress, and some randomness...

Yeah!! Another snow day tomorrow! Much sledding and cocoa drinking will be done. We are supposed to get around 14 inches. That should be just enough to snow us in for a day and not so much that we'll be stuck. perfect.

I have a confession. We have a storage unit. and I hate it. We moved from a large apartment to a very small apartment to a smallish house and so some boxes had to go into storage. Also some super cool furniture we found. Now the storage unit is a bit taxing on our finances and we are trying to go through all the stuff before the next billing cycle.

I should add here that the first move was very badly done. No planning at all, and the highlight was my sister tossing things into large garbage bags and handing them to the movers. really. it happened.

The result is that the boxes that are there are totally random things, paper, pictures, an apron, just weird stuff. In order to make the task a little more fun I thought I'd post pictures of some of the random things I find. Keep in mind, I've moved these things twice and then paid to store them.

Exhibit #1-

Randommirror

This is a musical mirror. It winds up on the back and plays 'Love Story'. The date on it is 1983 and I'd say that's about right. Embarrassing? Yes. But it is also very motivating to simplify and completely pair down. I don't know if there will be more of this kind of stuff, but I suspect that there is.

On the crafting front, I've finished 2 birds and made some progress in taking apart the quilt. Here are the birds with some paper whites in my kitchen window.

Birdsinthewindow

Aren't they cute? The red one is very popular around here, he looks like the cardinal who frequents our feeders.

And finally, keeping with cute, this little one just tired himself out playing with his house. He fell asleep on the ottoman.

Tiredboy

I completely understand pumpkin.

recovering...

I'm here just trying to recover from the holiday madness. Family, guests, parties, mess. Our house is small and when there is even just one thing out of place you get mess. Not that there is ever just one thing out of place, there are usually many things, but now it is unusually messy. So I should be up cleaning and generally tidying up, but I'm not. (although I did go through the boys room today and it looks mighty fine and sparkley) Instead I have been spending too much time on facebook. and I made a weeme.

Weemee1

I don't usually like pictures of myself, but this image comes close and I think she's kinda cute!

Ok, now that I have let my inner geek roam free...

I have been thinking about new year's resolutions. I think I've got a good achievable one, but I'll wait to unveil it.

Mostly what I have been thinking about is getting things done. I've got so many little (and big) projects started and it's hard to keep track. So I saw on someone's blog (I'll look for it, but I'm not good at finding things a second time) that she kept a monthly list of things to do and crossed it off. I like that. I do well with lists. and I do so enjoy the crossing off. I don't know if I'll keep it here or not. But I've got my list for January. I think the key will be to keep it small and do able. I can always add later. So you may see it over there in the sidebar.

The making of things should resume this week, my plans are many little birds and a blanket surprise.
